Focus on YOU!
Have you recently been downsized out of a job? Are you nervous, fearful, less confident, and even scaired? All of these feelings and more are truly natural but the winners in this tough economic market are going to be the ones that can look at the positives that this event has provided. It is sometimes difficult to do when you are concerned and consumed with where that next paycheck is going to come from. A creative approach and a new focus on YOU can open doors you never knew existed!
Take this time to step back and re-evaluate who you really are. What you need and desire out of a job… and what types of work really makes you happy… Assessment tools like the one offered through ExecuInsight can provide invaluable insight into these areas and help to reignite passions you lost long ago.
Spend time connecting with YOUrself… through mediation, prayer, exercise…. anything that will allow you to calm your mind and relax. Be aware of and open to the clues that life is giving you about what you really love in life. Make a listing of what you value most in your life. Then begin to set goals that fit into those values. Once you have your goals in mind place them in a present tense as if you have already achieved them. Keep this present tense list visible at all times. You may want to place it so it comes up on your computer screen or keep the written list in your wallet. Review the list at least twice daily prior to relaxing your mind. The power of positive thought is so amazing and you will be surprised at what comes your way if you keep yourself open to the opportunities.
Next, set daily goals that help to get you to your overall (present tense) goals. Individual items that will help you to move forward. You might attend a networking event for an association that operates in the industry you want to move into or you may spend 30 minutes each day networking on LinkedIn. Also, be sure to create a solid schedule for each day. Block out every hour with activities and goals you want to accomplish. This will help you keep your focus.
It is good to have a Coach to keep you on track and keep you accountable. At ExecuInsight, we have the BEST Coaching staff that is skilled in helping you set goals and keeping you focused on getting there.
Another important element in this process is your health. Take this time to get your body healthy. The corporate world is not typically an environment that allows for healthy eating and fitness. People tend to incur stress and develop body fat while in the corporate setting. Being laid off gives you the time to really focus on eating right and engaging in a consistent fitness program. Don’t miss this opportunity to be the best you can be. The secondary benefit to getting back your health is that you feel better and have an enhanced level of confidence. This will be evident to those around you including prospective employers!
Lastly, spend time with people building strong relationships. Certainly enjoy this time to reconnect with your family and friends. Make those quality connections and give them your heart. Also, network and connect with everyone! You never know who will know someone that can help you. Keep in mind that networking can range from on-line social networking to in-person networking events and/or parties. Take every opportunity that comes your way to meet new people.
The economy and your ex-employer have given you the gift of re-evaluation, renewal, and re-energizing! Don’t pass it up! Enjoy!!!
